After the election, teachers are increasingly leaving Elon Musk’s X for BlueSky.

The election results have accelerated the exodus of teachers from X, with the majority gravitating towards BlueSky.

Sample Educator Conversations:

  • Teachers invite each other to leave X for Bluesky and share what they’re finding there.
    • BlueSky “starter packs” are allowing teachers to easily access the community, particularly in math, abound as do dynamic lists of educators joining BlueSky.
    • Teachers share why they are going to BlueSky: “I’m finding good edu talk and camaraderie;” “It seems like that’s where everyone else is going;” and  “use the hashtag #EduSky and join us!”
    • Teachers note greater engagement even with a smaller following on BlueSky compared to X: “One day in and I feel more seen there. Join me.”
  • Math educators in particular have quickly built a community on BlueSky, working to “rebuild the #mtbos community.” Math educators also drove an especially robust community on X.”
  • Conversations about equity in education are finding new energy on BlueSky. Black educators are gathering under the hashtag #BlackEduSky to discuss problems of practice and their experiences as educators.
  • Educators are asking practice questions more readily than they have recently on X. These practice questions are receiving a higher volume of replies from educator peers than on other digital channels.
  • Amidst what is growing to be a mass exodus of X, some educators and leaders are rallying to remain connected with those who are still on the platform: “Let’s use this thread for principals and teachers to stay connected with one another;” and “It’s possible to still talk Edu on X.”
    • Principals and district leaders don’t express the same drive to migrate to BlueSky, at least not announced publicly on their feeds.
